Legendary director Andrea Breth is renowned for her scrupulous attention to detail and depth of psychological insight. Here she turns her attention to Isaak Babel’s portrait of the nervous and uncertain climate of St. Petersburg in the 1930s. Marija shows the struggles of an extended family attempting to come to terms with radically different times.
