Staffan Valdemar Holm re-opens the main theatre with Shakespeare’s most famous tragedy. Hamlet returns home to find his father dead, his mother married to his uncle and peace a sham. His father’s ghost appears and urges him to take revenge. The play, however, soon transcends this genre. Hamlet uses the theatre as his instrument to tell fact from fiction and truth from artifice, and in doing so, he turns Shakespeare’s play into a key theatrical text and the first modern drama.
